Stage One is when I remove the fur that is already loose enough to fly away and stick to things. I spray the soft bristle side of the brush with a waterless deshedding shampoo and conditioner. Every couple of brush strokes I spray the brush some more. It's a bit like a kitty sponge bath. When I'm done the brush looks like this.
Stage Two is when the Furminator is brought in and the serious deshedding occurs. Velcro has a pretty thick coat for a short haired cat, so this stage can last a good 30 -45 minutes. Especially because Velcro prances around purring and rubbin his face against me and rolling on the floor the whole time. Once I'm done the furball has grown much larger.Stage Three returns to the mega kitty brush for a session with the wire bristle brush. Still a fair amount of loose fur.
Stage Four is when I go over Velcro with a fine tooth comb to get the last bits of loose fur.
I finish off with Stage Five, another short brushing with the soft bristle brush to smooth out Velcro's coat so he is extra smooth and silky.
